Talks with my brother often sparked curiosity, leading to two patents. The first patent was inspired by folk tale Magic Carpet from 1001 Nights. Like how the flying carpet was used to transport people in the tale, the invention devises a flying carpet like device for takeoff, landing and general carrying purpose. Such a moving device forms a portable synthetic runway.
The second patent was inspired by the TV series “Deadliest Catch” on Discovery Channel. After witnessing the tragedies of the fishermen who lost lives to their jobs, we came up with an idea to automate the fishing industry in order to eliminate the dangers to its workers.
PORTABLE CIRCULAR SYNTHETIC RUNWAY

Abstract: Presented is a system to launch, carry and recover aerial vehicles with a portable circular synthetic runway formed by a moving pad which is equivalent to flying carpet in the ancient tale. Based on the fact that during the process of takeoff, landing or being carried, an aircraft only needs be supported from limited space directly underneath (or above) it, a pad (or a beam or a cable), which is acting as carriage and moving in unison with an aircraft, can be used to provide the same structural support as what's rendered by conventional runway or transportation vehicle. Circular structure of the synthetic runway makes such a device compact and portable.

Abstract: Presented is a system and method via nature-inspired design and engineering to autonomously fish, sort and deliver the catch. It implements rope-less fishing via a novel variable buoyancy device and an autonomous aerial and underwater vehicle as a fishing gear carrier. Its versatile capabilities are comprised of the AI sorting capability to comply with regulations, the capability to capture renewable energy to reduce operating costs, the capability to both passively fish with bait and proactively hunt for fish and the capability to gather intelligence to find optimal fishing grounds.
